ASSESSMENT AND REHABILITATION OF A FIRE-DAMAGED BUILDING IN ATHENS
Project's Description

The reinforced-concrete building constructed in 1977, consists of 4 above-ground floors, one mezzanine, and 2 basements. In 2010 the building was seriously damaged by a fire that broke out in part of the ground floor. Maintaining the dominant use of office spaces, the architectural proposal includes the radical renovation of the building and a landmark façade.

The first part of our services consisted of general a technical structural due diligence, as well as post-fire assessment of the status of the main structural system, both assisted by in-situ and laboratory investigation.

Α rehabilitation design followed which proposed extensive repair works, concrete fire protection, and various local strengthening works due to the fire damage, the slab opening for a new vehicle lift ,and other architectural modifications.

Secondary steel structures designs were also undertaken for the new vehicle elevator, a new external emergency staircase, and the facade supporting structure.
