STRENGHTENING OF AN OFFICE BUILDING IN ATHENS
Project's Description

It is a 6 storey reinforced concrete building including also a basement, a mezzanine floor and a terrace room. It is located in the area of Exarchia, at 2 Mpotasi Street, in the center of Athens. The total property building area is 1380 m2, was built in 1981 and used to house the offices of the legendary Sony records. Our scope included on-site identification of the structural system, coordinating the investigation works and the structural rehabilitation and strengthening design of the existing building; the latter was undertaken according to Greek Regulation of Interventions KAN.EPE, which was required due to the architectural interventions and future loads.

Notably, our approach involved strengthening certain reinforced concrete columns using gunite or CFRP sheets to increase their bending and shear strength. Additionally, we enhanced the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams, through the application of externally bonded CFRPs in a U-wrap configuration, while steel plates were proposed for beam flexural strengthening. Last. CFRPs were utilized for slab strengthening.
