EVALUATION AND STRENGTHENING OF A MULTISTOREY BUILDING IN ATHENS
Project's Description

The project is an existing building with a building permit of 1961, with a total surface area of 2100 m². It consists of 6 floors, attic and basement.

The initial structural framing system exhibited several weaknesses, such as an eccentric concrete core, lack of perimeter walls, recesses, many indirect supports and lack of framing action.

Because the original structural design could not be found, a full program of investigative work was performed, as well as a structural survey.

Due to its conversion from a retail and office building to a multi-bed boutique hotel, an evaluation and redesign study was carried out, in accordance with the provisions of KAN.EPE.

The solution of shotcrete in columns and critical beams was chosen as a reinforcement strategy , in order to enhance the strength and stiffness of the structure and remove its torsional sensitivity. In addition, some beams were reinforced with carbon fibre or steel plates.
